Good Bad Friday

Two thousand years ago (do you ever really stop to think how long a time ago that really is?) the universe underwent a change from which it would never "recover." When the infinite Creator cloaked Himself in finite "creatureliness" and lived, taught, walked and moved among us, there was an unheard of ripple throughout the creation.

Then, as if that weren't shocking enough, the Sent One Jesus went where even humans shudder to believe. He embodied the weight of all the evil, all the brokenness, all the human rebellion, all the hurts and carnage of the universe and "became sin for us" (2 Cor. 5) in order to direct the wrath of God away from the creatures who would never be able to stand up under it. Jesus came to die, to be utterly estranged from the Father with whom He had perfect, full and unbroken communion/relationship to this point, and to stand in between the Holy, Holy, Holy All-Mighty God and the Sinful, Sinful, Sinful Undeserving humans re-making a path for their connection. What a cost for such a prize...

And He never went back. He didn't come down from the cross as His mockers asked. Instead, he stayed, fully aware of His agony and of each one of us for whom it would apply.

And for His glory forever...greater love has no one than this, that He lay down His life for His friends. What a mercy, sweet mercy!
